Finding New Hope Reading Center and Mrs. Lightfoot made a difficult diagnosis so much easier to navigate. Having someone to guide my son and me through a new way to learn that made sense to his brain was a complete blessing and has opened doors for his future that would otherwise be closed. This coursework has provided me with a wealth of information about structured literacy beyond that of any other coursework/professional development I have completed. With regular monthly classes, new content gained is instantly applied in the classroom setting and/or in a one-to one or small group setting when fulfilling clinical hours. I was able to take this course as it was offered through the BOCES that my school district utilizes... I would recommend this course to anyone looking to help students with dyslexia learn to become successful readers. As a reading interventionist, I have seen firsthand how beneficial the Take Flight program can be for struggling readers. The Certified Dyslexia Training Program has deepened my knowledge of how to effectively teach reading to all students, including those with dyslexia. I have seen great growth in my students’ reading abilities using the Take Flight curriculum in my intervention classroom. I have recently completed my first year of training to become a Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) with Sally.
